Me and my friend Max (she will be a recurring character) took a girls weekend in Stockholm to see her boyfriend’s band at Nomad restaurant and bar on the 28th. The post will be everything for some of my diary entries to all the cafeets, bars and restaurants we visited and their website or address so you can find them. I’ll also add my estimated expenses as a budget traveler.
We took the train up on Friday evening and then the train home Sunday afternoon. That left us two nights, one whole day and A LOT of city to explore in less than 48hours. We visited 3 cafes and one bar&resturant. We started a series where Max (an educated baker and confectioner) tries a cinnamon roll from every bakery we visit ! we’ll review and let you know which ones are worth trying from the baker’s opinion!
Diary entry
The train was 3 hours delayed, can’t say I’m surprised when growing up with sweden’s public transport. We did end up getting reimbursed for the taxi we had to take to get to our accommodation because the train was so delayed the trams did not run. We ended up getting to our accommodation around 03 instead of 00:30. If something similar happens to you when traveling with SJ train you should try contacting kundservice@sj.se
Our accommodation was free since we stayed with Maxs family right outside of central stockholm. My biggest recommendation is getting a 72h ticket for the public transport since it can take you anywhere in Stockholm and your legs will thank you ! Trams and subways are the common typ of transport none of which in used to. Finding my way around T-centralen was like trying to find my mom in the biggest IKEA you can imagine. T-centralen has different names depending on how and where you get there ( an FYI).
We took the subway to T-centralen and spent majority of the saturday walking around Drottning gatan and exploring. Humana is a great second hand store located there on Gamla brogatan 26.
Some stores we went to that I want to visit again and recommend to anyone with an alternative style is Blue fox Gamla Brogatan 27, 111 20 Stockholm , humana second hand Gamla Brogatan 26, 111 20 Stockholm . We also went into a store that screamed America *insert eagle noise* with what I can only describe as I walking into a teleport to texas. They had the most gorgeous cowboy boots and I cried inside that I didn’t buy them. The stores name is Sko uno Gamla Brogatan 34, 111 20 Stockholm
Our biggest expense was transportation. Since we couldn’t always take public transport to and from places in a time effective way we may have gotten a little too comfortable with using Bolt, a type of uber service which is cheaper than a taxi and quicker than walking to the tram.
Our second biggest expense was shopping and then food since food is more expensive than you’d think here. I didn’t take that into consideration and went a little over budget but Live and Learn I guess.

The band we went to see were playing at Nomad restaurant and bar located Upplandsgatan 2, 111 23 Stockholm right next to City backpackers, a beautiful and artsy hostel connected to the restaurant. They have a 9,8/10 rating on Zenhostels if anyone is thinking about backpacking through stockholm !
The restaurant is I would say walking distance from T-centralen and their swedish meatballs and mashed potatoes are definitely worth the walk. The atmosphere is cozy and in my opinion nice for younger adults as well as older couples. The band played in their outside seating area witch reminded me of a paris apartment knook since you hade to walk through the restaurant to get there and area was surrounded by the hostel apartment windows so a free even opened their windows to sit and watch. Best way I could describe it was a paris apartment window facing a courtyard.
